Health Care & Nursing Scholarships
Listed below are the descriptions and requirements for each individual scholarship. Each Scholarship fund has ranked, in order of scoring importance, the eligibility criteria specific to that fund.
Dorothy and Dick Burgess Scholarship
The Dorothy and Dick Burgess Scholarship Fund was established to provide deserving young students, who might otherwise be unable to afford it, the opportunity to attend a smaller Michigan college* "I paid for my own college education and I know the difference it's made in my life, I'd like to help deserving young people in our community do the same". - Dick Burgess
*A smaller public Michigan college is defined as a 2 or 4-year college or university whose annual yearly tuition costs do not exceed $17,000. These schools include (but are not limited to) Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Jackson Community College, Michigan Technological University, or Western Michigan University. Schools that will not be considered include (but are not limited to) the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Hillsdale College, or Spring Arbor University.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Proof of financial need
• Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above
• Demonstrate good citizenship, high moral
character, and potential for leadership and academic success
• Plan to pursue a course of study that leads to a
degree in earth science, engineering, premedical, or Christian ministry
• Proof of acceptance to a smaller, accredited
Michigan 2 or 4-year college or university
• Plan to complete a baccalaureate degree within
four consecutive years
• Previous recipients in their second, third and
fourth academic years may apply for annual renewal scholarships of up to $4,000 |

The Eileen J. Smith, R.N. Memorial Scholarship
The Eileen J. Smith, R. N. Memorial Scholarship was established by Eileen's husband and children. Eileen was a friendly generous person. This scholarship is a reminder of the passion and dedication she had for helping others. Apply now.

with a major in a medical profession
• Applicants can be part-time or full-time
students

Jackson County Medical Society Alliance Scholarship
The Jackson County Medical Society Alliance scholarship was established by the Alliance to help Jackson County medical students fulfill their dreams of becoming physicians. The scholarship is funded by Jackson County physicians and their spouses through donations received from their annual Holiday Sharing Card. Apply now.

This scholarship is managed by and will be awarded from the Jackson County Medical Society Alliance.
Eligibility Requirements:
• Demonstrates good citizenship qualities in
school and community
• Enrolled in a state of Michigan Medical School
for Osteopathic or Allopathic medicine
• “Home” residence in Jackson County
• Proof of financial need

Paul Tejada Memorial Scholarship
The Paul Tejada Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Paul Tejada, former President of W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital. Applicants must plan to attend an accredited college or university to major in health services administration, nursing or human medicine.
Previous recipients can apply for renewal scholarships in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th consecutive years of school. Apply now.
Eligibility Requirements:
• A grade point average of 3.0 or above
• Demonstrate good citizenship qualities, high
moral character and potential for leadership
• Plan to pursue a course of study leading to a
degree in health services administration, nursing or human medicine
• Must plan to be or be a full time student who
maintains a minimum of 12 credit hours
• Prior recipients must carry at least a 2.0 grade
point average during their first year of college and a 2.5 thereafter |

Sue Walicki Nursing Scholarship
The Sue Walicki Nursing Scholarship was established by Sue's husband, Richard Walicki, and father, Jim Winter, in honor of the passion and dedication she had for her work. "She knew she wanted to be a nurse from the time she was a child". - Richard Walicki

Eligibility Requirements:
• A Jackson County resident or current employee
of a Jackson County health care facility
• Plan to start, continue, or advance education in
the field of nursing or a nursing-related field (such as a Nurse Practitioner, Mid-Wife, or Nurse Anesthetist). Applicants currently enrolled in college in a nursing program will be given preference.
• Proof of acceptance in an accredited Nursing
Program
• Full or part time enrollment at an accredited
Michigan college or university
• Proof of financial need |

Edward and Nella Davis Fullman Scholarship
Established by Georgia and Travis Fojtasek, in memory of Georgia’s mother, Nella Davis Fullman. The purpose is to support students with financial need and compelling circumstances who wish to enter the field of nursing.
Eligibility Requirements:
• A Jackson County resident or current employee
of a Jackson County health care facility
• Plan to start, continue, or advance education in
the field of nursing or a nursing-related field (such as a Nurse Practitioner, Mid-Wife, or Nurse Anesthetist). Applicants currently enrolled in college in a nursing program will be given preference.
• Proof of acceptance in an accredited Nursing
Program

Volunteers of Allegiance Health Scholarship
The Volunteers of Allegiance Health Employee Scholarship provides an award to a qualified high school senior or graduate. Applicants must be a dependent of an employee of Allegiance Health. The award recipient will be recommended by a designated committee of the Volunteers of Allegiance Health.
Previous recipients are given preference and may reapply through the annual application process if GPA is 3.0 or above. Apply now.
Eligibility Requirements:
• A dependent child of an Allegiance Health
employee who has at least one year of service
• Must carry a 3.0 GPA in the prior two years of
formal education
• Demonstrate good citizenship qualities in school
and community
• Students must major in the field of health care.
Preferential treatment will be given to students in their second year and above who demonstrate a commitment to a specific program
• Must be enrolled in a two or four year accredited
public/private college or university carrying a minimum of 12 semester hours or equivalent
• Proof of financial need
• Scholarship recipients may be required to submit
a written update or participate in an interview after the school year is complete. |
