High School-Specific Scholarships 

Listed below are the descriptions and requirements for each individual scholarship. Each Scholarship fund has ranked, in order of scoring importance, the eligibility criteria specific to that fund.

June Danby and Pat Pearse Education Scholarship (non-renewable-Jackson High School) 

The June Danby and Pat Pearse Education Scholarship provides a $1,000, the award recognizes and encourages those who desire to enter the field of Education. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:$1,000, more than one scholarship may be awarded

SCHOLARSHIP USE: Tuition, books, fees, room and board or other academic-related costs 

The Eleanor A. Ernest Scholarship (non-renewable) 

The Eleanor A Ernest Scholarship is awarded each year to a valedictorian, salutatorian o r s tudent with the highest grade point average of a smaller JacksonCounty high school (148 students or less in graduating senior class). The award recognizes exceptional high school achievement in academics, citizenship and extracurricular activity by providing a one year, $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior who is enrolled or who plans to enroll in an approved post secondary institution*. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

*APPROVED POST-SECONDARY SCHOOLS INCLUDE: Accredited 4-Year College or University; Junior or Community College; Vocational or Technical School; NursingSchool ; Secretarial/Business School.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:    $1,000

Robert P. Ernest Scholarship (non-renewable) 

The Robert P. Ernest Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a valedictorian, salutatorian o r s tudent with the highest grade point average of a larger JacksonCounty high school (149 students or more in graduating senior class).  The award recognizes exceptional high school achievement in academics, citizenship and extracurricular activity by providing a one-year, $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior who is enrolled or who plans to enroll in an approved post secondary institution*.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:    $1,000

William and Beatrice Kavanaugh Scholarship (non-renewable- GrassLakeHigh School) 

The William and Beatrice Kavanaugh Scholarship was established by the Kavanaughs in appreciation of the quality of education their children received from the Grass Lake Public Schools. It is to be awarded to GrassLakeHigh School students to enable them to further their educational goals.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

SCHOLARSHIP USE: Tuition, books, fees, and/or other academic expenses 

Hanover-Horton High School Youth of Promise Scholarship   (non-renewable) 

The Hanover-Horton High School Youth of Promise Scholarship was established to recognize a Hanover-Horton student for overall achievement and scholastic excellence.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD$1,000, More than one scholarship may be awarded 

SCHOLARSHIP USE: Tuition, books, fees, and/or other academic expenses

Ruth Creps Scholarship (non-renewable-Hanover-Horton High School)

Ruth Creps was a 1934 graduate of Hanover-HortonHigh School.  Although she was married for a short time she never had children of her own, however the children in her community were very important to her.  

 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: To Be Announced.

The Otis and Florence Lapham Memorial Scholarship (non-renewable- Hanover-Horton High School) 

Otis and Florence were residents of Hanover for more than fifty years, (and) were supportive of community affairs.  They chose to leave a legacy to the area in the form of scholarships to Hanover-Horton schools for further education of the students.  (They were) looking to the future.    Anonyms 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: $1,000.00

Lucile E. McGee Scholarship  (non-renewable-Hanover-Horton High School)

William A. Conklin, brother of Lucile E. McGee established this scholarship in her memory. Lucile was a teacher in the Hanover-Horton Schools for many years and was always a strong believer in education.  This scholarship is administered by the Hanover-HortonSchool district and an application may be received from the school counselor.  

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:  $1,000.00, more than one scholarship may be awarded

Phillip Guy Richardson Memorial Scholarship ( Napoleon High School ) (Renewable in the second, third and fourth years through the application process) 

The Phillip Guy Richardson Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior of NapoleonHigh School.  The award recognizes exceptional high school and college achievement in academics, citizenship and extracurricular activity. Recommendation of a recipient will be made by a committee composed of the Napoleon High School Principal or Superintendent, a NapoleonHigh School counselor and a citizen of NapoleonTownship, with final approval by The Jackson County Community Foundation Board of Trustees.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: $2,000

Faith Speckhard Scholarship (non-renewable- JacksonHigh School) 

The Faith Speckhard Scholarship provides up to four $5,000 scholarships to qualified JacksonHigh School graduating seniors who are African American or women (of any race).  The award recognizes students who demonstrate motivation in their pursuit of higher education, are actively involved in their community, and have financial need.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

SELECTION CRITERIA: An interview may be requested at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: $5,000, More than one scholarship may be awarded

SCHOLARSHIP USE: Tuition, books, fees, or other academic costs 

Barbara and Howard Thompson Scholarship (previous recipients will be considered through the regular application process- JacksonHigh School) 

Established in honor of Barbara and Howard Thompson, this scholarship reflects their personal dedication to youth of JacksonCounty and their belief in the importance of history and education. Each year one award is given to a JacksonHigh School graduating senior or previous recipient who is pursuing a degree in History and/or Political Science.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: Up to $5,000 (The annual award amount is subject to change based upon available.)
