High School-Specific Scholarships
Listed below are the descriptions and requirements for each individual scholarship. Each Scholarship fund has ranked, in order of scoring importance, the eligibility criteria specific to that fund.
The Eleanor A. Ernest Scholarship
The Eleanor A Ernest Scholarship is awarded each year to a valedictorian, salutatorian or student with the highest grade point average of a smaller Jackson County high school (148 students or less in graduating senior class). The award recognizes exceptional high school achievement in academics, citizenship and extracurricular activity by providing a one year, $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior who is enrolled or who plans to enroll in an approved post secondary institution*.

Robert P. Ernest Scholarship
The Robert P. Ernest Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a valedictorian, salutatorian or student with the highest grade point average of a larger Jackson County high school (149 students or more in graduating senior class). The award recognizes exceptional high school achievement in academics, citizenship and extracurricular activity by providing a one-year, $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior who is enrolled or who plans to enroll in an approved post secondary institution*.

William and Beatrice Kavanaugh Scholarship
The William and Beatrice Kavanaugh Scholarship was established by the Kavanaughs in appreciation of the quality of education their children received from the Grass Lake Public Schools. It is to be awarded to Grass Lake High School students to enable them to further their educational goals.
This scholarship is non-renewable and available only to students of Grass Lake High School. Apply now.
Eligibility Requirements:
• A graduating Grass Lake High School senior who
has attended the school for the full academic year
• Cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or higher
• Demonstration of good citizenship qualities in
school and/or community
• Plans to be a full time student and carry at least
12 credit hours or equivalent
• Acceptance at an accredited college or university

Hanover-Horton High School Youth of Promise Scholarship
The Hanover-Horton High School Youth of Promise Scholarship was established to recognize a Hanover-Horton student for overall achievement and scholastic excellence.

Eligibility Requirements:
• A graduating Hanover-Horton High School senior
(must have attended the school for at least one full academic year)
• Hold a 3.0 grade point average or above
• Demonstrate good character with focused goals
• Plan to be a full time student and carry a
minimum 12 credit hours or equivalent
• Planning to attend an accredited Michigan
college or university |

Ruth Creps Scholarship
Ruth Creps was a 1934 graduate of Hanover-Horton High School. Although she was married for a short time she never had children of her own, however the children in her community were very important to her.
This scholarship is non-renewable and available only to Hanover-Horton High School students. Apply now.

The Otis and Florence Lapham Memorial Scholarship
Otis and Florence were residents of Hanover for more than fifty years, and were supportive of community affairs. They chose to leave a legacy to the area in the form of scholarships to Hanover-Horton schools for further education of the students. They were looking to the future.
This scholarship is non-renewable and available only to Hanover-Horton High School students. Apply now.

Lucile E. McGee Scholarship
William A. Conklin, brother of Lucile E. McGee established this scholarship in her memory. Lucile was a teacher in the Hanover-Horton Schools for many years and was always a strong believer in education. This scholarship is administered by the Hanover-Horton School district and an application may be received from the school counselor.
This scholarship is non-renewable and available only to students at Hanover-Horton High School.
Eligibility Requirements:
• A graduating Hanover-Horton High School senior
• Open to any field of study
• Hold a minimum of 2.5 grade point average
• Full or part-time enrollment
• Demonstrate participation in both school and
extracurricular activities

Phillip Guy Richardson Memorial Scholarship
The Phillip Guy Richardson Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior of Napoleon High School. The award recognizes exceptional high school and college achievement in academics, citizenship and extracurricular activity. Recommendation of a recipient will be made by a committee composed of the Napoleon High School Principal or Superintendent, a Napoleon High School counselor and a citizen of Napoleon Township, with final approval by The Jackson County Community Foundation Board of Trustees.
This scholarship is available only to Napoleon High School students. It is renewable in the second, third and fourth years through the application process. Apply now.

Faith Speckhard Scholarship
The Faith Speckhard Scholarship provides up to four $5,000 scholarships to qualified Jackson High School graduating seniors who are African-American or women (of any race). The award recognizes students who demonstrate motivation in their pursuit of higher education, are actively involved in their community, and have financial need.
This scholarship is non-renewable and available only to students attending Jackson High School. Apply now.

African-American or a woman (of any race)
• Proof of financial need
• Hold a minimum 2.4 grade point average
• Proof of acceptance in an accredited college,
university, vocational or technical institute

and service

Barbara and Howard Thompson Scholarship
Established in honor of Barbara and Howard Thompson, this scholarship reflects their personal dedication to youth of Jackson County and their belief in the importance of history and education. Each year one award is given to a Jackson High School graduating senior or previous recipient who is pursuing a degree in History and/or Political Science.
Previous recipients will be considered through the regular application process. This scholarship is available only to students attending Jackson High School. Apply now.
