Alphabetical List of All Scholarships & Criteria

ATTENTION JACKSON COUNTY EARLY COLLEGE (JCEC) STUDENTSJCEC has impacted the definition of who is a graduating high school senior. Individual donors set their own eligibility criteria for our scholarships.  We are working with the donors to determine which scholarships will accept applications from JCEC students. 

Arasim-Obuchowski Scholarship - Up to $1,000

​

  • Graduating high school senior from Michigan Center High School and previous recipients.

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

  • Proof of financial need

  • Acceptance at an accredited two-year or four-year college/university or trade school

Bernice Barabash Sports Scholarship  - up to $1,000

This scholarship uses a separate downloadable application. It will not appear in the drop down list of scholarship choices on the JCF online application and does not count toward your 5 scholarships. 

  • Students in grades 7-12 who play hockey, including home-schooled students

  • Jackson County resident

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Must play hockey during the 2018-19 school year 

  • Plan to attend an accredited college, university, vocational or technical institute

Dennis J. Beck Memorial Scholarship - up to $1,000

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Graduating high school senior, returning learner, or student enrolled in the Jackson College Prison Education Initiative who has completed at least one semester and is housed in a Jackson County Corrections facility

  • Ethnic Minority (non-Caucasian) 

  • Demonstrate personal responsibility through work, community or family activities

  • Open to any field of study, with special consideration given to manufacturing (including any discipline used in direct support of operating a manufacturing facility)

Erma E. Biedermann Scholarship - up to $2,000

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Preference given to Michigan Center students but others may apply

  • High school senior or previous recipients (enrollment in the Jackson County Early College my impact your eligibility)

  • Demonstrate financial need

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5

  • Plan to attend a public college or university

Marvin W. & Rosaline A. Brandau Scholarship - up to $2,000

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Graduating high school senior, previous (undergraduate) recipients, home-schooled student, student already enrolled in and taking undergraduate  classes, or returning learner 

  • Demonstrate noteworthy achievement through work, community or family activities

  • Express an understanding of overcoming a personal obstacle in life

  • Cumulative GPA between 2.5 - 3.25

  • Proof of financial need  

  • Preference will be given to first generation college-going students

Dorothy and Dick Burgess Scholarship - up to $4,000

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Graduating high school senior, home-schooled student, previous recipients

  • Proof of financial need

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above 

  • Demonstrate good citizenship, high moral character, and potential for leadership and academic success 

  • Plan to pursue a course of study that leads to a degree in earth science, engineering, premedical, or Christian ministry 

  • Proof of acceptance to a smaller, public, and accredited Michigan 2 or 4-year college or university 

  • Plan to complete a baccalaureate degree within four consecutive years

Stacy Lynn Davis Scholarship - up to $1,000  

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan 

  • Graduating high school senior 

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher 

  • Participation in extracurricular activities including music and expresses an understanding of overcoming a personal obstacle in their life

  • Demonstration of good citizenship 

  • Full or part time enrollment in an accredited college or university 

  • Proof of financial need 

  • Demonstration of community service as evidenced by letter of recommendation

Antonia Dellas Memorial Scholarship - up to $2,000 

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • A high school senior who holds a GPA of 3.25 or above

  • A college student who holds a GPA of 3.0 or above

  • Acceptance to or attends an accredited Michigan college or university

  • Intends to enroll or is enrolled in a school of education

  • Preference will be given to those majoring in special education

  • Participation in school, community or volunteer activity

  • Proof of financial need

John J. Dellas Memorial Scholarship - up to $2,000

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • ​A high school senior who holds a GPA of 3.25 or above

  • A college student who holds a GPA of 3.0 or above

  • Acceptance to or attends an accredited Michigan college or university

  • Intends to enroll or is enrolled in a school of engineering

  • Participation in school, community or volunteer activity

  • Demonstration of good citizenship, high moral character, potential for leadership and academic success 

  • Proof of financial need​

  • One H.S. Senior and One to a college junior or senior whose home residence is Jackson County.

Eleanor A. Ernest Scholarship - up to $1,000

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Valedictorian, salutatorian or student with highest GPA from a smaller Jackson County high school (148 students or fewer in graduating senior class). For this year this excludes students from Jackson High School, Northwest High School and Western High School

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above 

  • Participation in school activities and/or sports 

  • Good citizenship, leadership and outside activities including work experience

Category: Valedictorian/Salutatorion

Melissa Ernest Scholarship - up to $1,500

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Graduating high school senior, or student already enrolled in and  taking undergraduate classes or returning learner

  • Enrolled / plans to enroll full- or part-time 

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher

  • Demonstrates financial need

Robert P. Ernest Scholarship - up to $1,000 

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Valedictorian, salutatorian or student with highest GPA from a larger Jackson County  high school (149 students or more in graduating senior class). For this year this includes only students from Jackson High School, Northwest High School and Western High School

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above 

  • Participation in school activities and/or sports 

  • Good citizenship, leadership and outside activities including work experience

Category: Valedictorian/Salutatorian

Georgia and Travis Fojtasek Scholarship - up to $1,000  

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Plan to start, continue, or advance education in the field of nursing or a nursing-related field (such as a Nurse Practitioner, Mid-Wife, or Nurse Anesthetist)

  • Graduating high school senior, previous recipient, home-schooled student, student already enrolled in and taking undergraduate classes, returning learner, student planning to attend graduate school, student already enrolled in graduate school  

  • Proof of acceptance in an accredited Nursing Program

  • Full or part time enrollment at an accredited Michigan college or university

  • Proof of financial need

Martha & Oliver Hansen Memorial Scholarship - up to $1,000  

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Incoming college junior or senior

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 or above 

  • Majoring in Education with the intention of teaching in the classroom 

  • Attends an accredited Michigan college or university

Henry Ford Jackson Hospital Empowerment Scholarship - Up to $2,000

  • Must live within a 25-mile radius of HFAH

  • Graduating high school senior, high school graduate or GED recipient, current undergraduate student or a returning learner

  • Member of a minority race or ethnic group, or a member of the LGBTQ+ community

  • Plan to pursue an associate, undergraduate or graduate degree, or complete a trade-school program

  • Accepted by an accredited 2 or 4 year college, university, or an accredited trade school

  • Be, or plan to be a fulltime student who maintains a minimum of 12 credit hours

Henry Ford Jackson Hospital New Beginnings Scholarship - Up to $2,000

  • Must live within a 25-mile radius of HFAH

  • Age 25 or older

  • High school graduate or GED recipient

  • Plan to pursue an associate, undergraduate or graduate degree

  • Accepted by an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university, or an accredited trade school

  • Be, or plan to be, a fulltime student who maintains a minimum of 12 credit hours

Henry Ford Jackson Hospital Family Scholarship - up to $2,000

  • A dependent child of a Henry Ford Allegiance Health employee who has at least one year of service

  • Must carry a 3.0 GPA in the prior two years of formal education

  • Demonstrate good citizenship qualities in school and community

  • Students must major in the field of health care.

  • Preferential treatment will be given to students in their second year and above who demonstrate a commitment to a specific program

  • Must be enrolled in a two or four year accredited public/private college or university carrying a minimum of 12 semester hours or equivalent

  • Proof of financial need

William & Beatrice Kavanaugh Memorial Scholarship - up to $1,000  

  • Graduating Grass Lake High School senior who has attended the school for the full academic year 

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher 

  • Demonstration of good citizenship qualities in school and/or community 

  • Plans to be a full time student and carry at least 12 credit hours or equivalent 

  • Acceptance at an accredited college or university

Andrew LaFaive Memorial Scholarship- up to $5,000  

  • Graduating Jackson High School senior and previous recipients 

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher 

  • First in immediate family to attend college

MACI Scholarship - up to $1,500

  • Under the age of 21 and a child or legal dependent of a MACI associate who has passed the TEP status and is an associate at the time the scholarship is disbursed 

  • Graduating high school senior, home-schooled student, student already enrolled in and taking undergraduate classes, returning learner, student planning to attend graduate school, student already enrolled in graduate school       

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during high school or college  

  • Acceptance by an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university 

  • Plan to be a full time student carrying a minimum of 12 credits or more per semester or equivalent

Lawrence & Joanne Maino Memorial Scholarship - up to $1,000

  • Graduating senior from Michigan Center High School or prior recipient

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

  • Demonstrate civic involvement

  • Exceptional work history

  • Must attend an accredited public college or university and be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program

  • Preference given to the pursuit of a degree in Pharmacy or Political Science

  • Scholarship Use: Tuition, books, fees, or other academic costs

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Public high school senior or student already enrolled in and taking        undergraduate classes

  • Plan to major in the field of Education

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher

  • Participation in school and community service or volunteer activities

  • Full or part-time enrollment in an accredited college or university

Phillip Guy Richardson Memorial Scholarship - up to $2,000

  • Napoleon High School senior or prior recipient 

  • Exemplary citizenship 

  • Participation in school activities and/or sports 

  • Leadership and outside activities including work experience

Janet C. Rochefort Scholarship for Single Moms - up to $1,000

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Female, single parent

  • Graduating high school senior; student already enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student; or adult returning learner

  • Demonstrates financial need

  • GPA 2.0 or higher

  • Full or part-time enrollment

 

Dr. William A. & Marceleine J. Sautter Hanover-Horton H. S. Youth

of Promise Scholarship  - up to $1,000

  • A graduating Hanover-Horton High School senior (must have attended the school for at least one full academic year) 

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0         

  • Demonstrate good character with focused goals 

  • Plan to be a full time student and carry a minimum 12 credit hours or equivalent 

  • Planning to attend an accredited Michigan college or university

Eileen J. Smith, R.N. Memorial Scholarship - up to $1,000

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Graduating high school senior, previous recipient, student already enrolled in and taking undergraduate classes, returning learner, student planning to attend graduate school, student already enrolled in graduate  school, or student enrolled in the Jackson College Prison Education Initiative who has completed at least one semester and is housed in a Jackson County Corrections facility

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university with a major in a medical profession 

  • Enrolled part or full-time 

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Faith Speckhard Scholarship - up to $5,000

  • A Jackson High School graduating senior  

  • Proof of financial need 

  • Hold a minimum 2.4 GPA

  • Proof of acceptance in an accredited college, university, vocational or technical institute 

  • Full or part-time enrollment in an accredited college or university 

  • Participation in community activities, leadership, and service

J. Sheridan Stewart Scholarship - up to $1,500

  • Residents of Tompkins Township in Jackson County, Michigan who are graduating high school seniors from Northwest Community Schools,

       Springport Public Schools, Western School District,  Leslie Public Schools, or previous recipients

  • GPA of 2.5 or higher

  • Plans to attend an accredited Michigan college or university

  • Majors in agriculture, engineering, health care or education

  • Demonstrates financial need

Category: Northwest, Springport, Western or Leslie High School students living in Tompkins Township

Paul Tejada Memorial Scholarship - up to $1,500

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Graduating high school senior, previous recipient, home-schooled student, student already enrolled in and taking undergraduate classes, returning learner

  • GPA of 3.0 - 3.9 

  • Demonstrate good citizenship qualities, high moral character and potential for leadership

  • Express an understanding of overcoming a personal obstacle in life

  • Plan to pursue a course of study leading to a degree in health services administration, nursing or human medicine 

  • Must plan to be or be a full time student who maintains a minimum of 12 credit hours 

  • Prior recipients must carry at least a 2.0 GPA during their first year of college and a 2.5 thereafter

Thought 1 Scholarship - up to $2,500

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Graduating high school senior or graduating home-schooled student

  • Lost a parent, step-parent or legal guardian to cancer OR applicant is a cancer survivor

  • Proof of acceptance to an accredited 2 or 4 year college, university or trade school

  • Applicants must submit at least one letter of recommendation describing how cancer has impacted their life

  • It is recommended that applicants address how cancer has impacted their life in the "Essay" section of the application

Category: Overcame Obstacle and Various Majors/Fields of Study

Sue Walicki Nursing Scholarship - up to $5,000

  • Resident of Jackson County, Michigan

  • Graduating high school senior, previous recipient, student already enrolled in and taking undergraduate classes, returning learner, student planning to attend graduate school, student already enrolled in graduate  school

  • Plan to start, continue, or advance education in the field of nursing or a nursing-related field (such as a Nurse Practitioner, Mid-Wife, or Nurse Anesthetist)

  •  Applicants currently enrolled in college in a nursing program will be given preference.

  • Proof of acceptance in an accredited Nursing Program 

  • Full or part time enrollment at an accredited Michigan college or university 

  • Proof of financial need
