SCHOLARSHIPS OPEN TO A VARIETY OF FIELDS


Scholarships Open to a Variety of Fields 

Listed below are the descriptions and requirements for each individual scholarship. Each Scholarship fund has ranked, in order of scoring importance, the eligibility criteria specific to that fund.  

Dennis J. Beck Memorial Scholarship   (non-renewable)

 

Established by the family and friends of Dennis J. Beck, this scholarship honors his belief that a young person's character, when supported through education, is the foundation of the future.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:  Up to $1,000

SCHOLARSHIP USE:  Tuition, books, fees, or other academic related costs

Erma E. Biedermann Scholarship (renewable) 

Erma E. Biedermann was a passionate educator who spent 27 years of her life as a teacher and principal in the MichiganCenterSchool District. Shortly before her death in 1982, she established a will that would create a trust fund to provide money for students desiring to continue their education in college.  It was her intention to continue to help educate young people long after she was gone. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:  $1,000, More than one scholarship may be awarded.

SCHOLARSHIP USE:  Tuition, books, fees, or other academic related costs.

Marvin W. and Rosaline A. Brandau Scholarship   (renewable) 

The Marvin W. and Rosaline A. Brandau Scholarship Fund was established as a lasting tribute to long time Jackson residents, Marvin and Rosaline Brandau.  The Brandaus did not have children of their own and their formal schooling was limited.  "They realized, however, that the world of today is far different than what they experienced and that education is a requirement, regardless of one's chosen work.  It is their desire that those receiving financial assistance from the scholarship would continue their legacy of hard work, improving one's self and helping others". - Chad Noble, nephew

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:  Up to $2,000, More than one scholarship may be awarded

SCHOLARSHIP USE:  Tuition, books, fees, or other academic related costs 

Dorothy and Dick Burgess Scholarship (renewable) 

The Dorothy and Dick Burgess Scholarship Fund was established to provide deserving young students, who might otherwise be unable to afford it, the opportunity to attend a smaller Michigan college* "I paid for my own college education and I know the difference it's made in my life, I'd like to help deserving young people in our community do the same". - Dick Burgess

*A smaller public Michigan college is defined as a 2 or 4-year College or University whose annual yearly tuition costs do not exceed $17,000. These schools include (but are not limited to) Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Jackson Community College, Michigan Technological University, or Western Michigan University. Schools that will NOT be considered include (but are not limited to) the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, HillsdaleCollege, or SpringArborUniversity.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

SELECTION CRITERIA:  An interview may be requested at the discretion of the scholarship committee. 

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:  Up to $4,000.  

SCHOLARSHIP USE:  Tuition, books, fees, or other academic related costs        

James M. and Helen M. Crowley Scholarship   (previous recipients are given preference and may apply through the regular competitive application process) 

Mrs. Helen M. Crowley established this fund in honor of her late husband, James M. Crowley, and her family's commitment to the Jackson community.  Approximately forty percent of scholarships will be designated for graduates of LumenChristiHigh School. When there are not enough competitive applications from LumenChristiHigh School, those scholarships will be open to others.  Applicants may be graduating high school seniors, college undergraduates or adults who wish to further their education.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:  $5,000, More than one scholarship may be awarded 

Stacy Lynn Davis Scholarship   (non-renewable) 

This scholarship fund was established in memory of Stacy Lynn Davis.  Stacy was an 8th grade student attending The Middle School at Parkside at the time of her death.  She was an excellent student who set high standards for herself.  She played second chair clarinet in the marching band and was a participant in varsity and symphonic band.

SCHOLARSHIP USE:  Tuition, books, fees, and/or other academic expenses
