The Jackson Community Foundation (JCF) is looking for a Donor and Community Relationship Director to work with an experienced team to build and develop our existing donor and community relationships and fund development and stewardship practices.

Our story

JCF is experiencing a growth spurt in both assets and relationships. We need an experienced Donor and Community Relationship Director who can work with the rest of our small but mighty team to shape and implement ambitious friend-raising and fund-building strategies. With support from the President & CEO, and the rest of the team, this person will build and manage processes to engage our community members to join us in our mission by living our values every day at work. While JCF has already put frameworks for engaging our stakeholders in place, our hope is to add an amazing leader to our team who will partner with us to bring this work to the next level.

Reports To – President & CEO

Essential Responsibilities

Donor Relationship-building (70%)

  • Work with the President & CEO to implement our asset development plan

  • Guide and support the Board and the Fund Development Committee in development efforts

  • Maintain and build healthy relationships with current and prospective donors and fund representatives

Community Relationship-building (15%)

  • Represent JCF in community gatherings, activities, and events

  • Identify and cultivate community leadership opportunities for partnerships with individuals, nonprofits, grassroots organizations, community groups, other foundations, service clubs, and local businesses

  • Maintain a broad understanding of the needs of Jackson County, the nonprofits working directly with our community members, and use this knowledge in relationship-building and development efforts

General Operations (15%)

  • Collaborate with staff in making key strategic decisions affecting JCF’s future

  • Participate in staff meetings, attend community events, and otherwise contribute to strengthening the deep roots within our community, both internally and externally

  • Steward new donor and fund processes to ensure all documentation, records and processes are complete and verified in the permanent record and CRM database

  • We will begin scheduling phone interviews no later than May 2nd

  • We will conduct short phone interviews throughout May and begin in-person one-hour interviews in late May

  • If you are invited for an in-person interview, we will ask for two work samples relevant to this position, e.g., a process you created, a writing sample, or other relevant materials

  • Finalists will be invited to a second-round one-hour interview and asked to submit at least two references

  • Optimally, we would like to have the selected candidate start no later than July or August

Essential Requirements

  • A great sense of humor and grace!

  • A minimum of three to five years of fund development experience specifically in donor and community relationship building strategies in the nonprofit sector

  • Able to attend some evening and weekend events

  • Excellent fund development strategy, planning, and donor cultivation abilities

  • Experience working with communities of color, grassroots organizations, and nonprofits with a nuanced understanding of systemic disparities

  • Flexibility and adaptability, able to shift styles to fit the needs of a wide range of cultures, people, and organizations

  • High emotional intelligence, able to easily develop deep, trusting relationships with diverse individuals from many different backgrounds

  • Impeccable written and oral communication skills

  • Love of continuous learning

 Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay range of $24 to $28 per hour based on experience

  • Full-time, non-exempt position, working 36 hours per week. We believe in work-life balance, and are committed to keeping the workload in alignment with the true hours worked

  • Up to 20 days of PTO, 11 paid holidays, and a flexible, family-friendly schedule

  • We provide medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term and short-term disability benefits with JCF covering over 80% of the costs of the package for the employee
